Aussie Tech Changing the Content World
ChatGPT for video

When you think about the tools behind Hollywood films, the world’s most popular graphic design platform, or the go-to link-in-bio solution used by celebrities and creators alike—you probably picture big tech hubs overseas.

But surprise! Some of the world’s most powerful tools for video and content creation were invented right here in Australia.

Here are a few fun facts that’ll make you puff your chest out a bit next time you open your camera app or schedule a Reel.

đŸŽ€ Sound - RØDE

Born in Sydney, RØDE is now one of the most recognised audio brands in the world.

Used by filmmakers, YouTubers, podcasters—even Hollywood soundies—RØDE proves that great sound doesn’t have to come from overseas. We’ve got world-class gear being designed and built in our own backyard.

đŸ–Œïž Graphic Design - Canva

Co-founded by Perth’s Melanie Perkins, Canva changed the game.

You no longer need a graphic designer to create pro-looking social posts, flyers or pitch decks. Canva democratised design—and helped millions of businesses look better, faster.

🔗SM Management - Linktree

A Melbourne-based team created Linktree to solve a classic social media headache: the one-link bio limit.

Linktree boasts over 70 million users worldwide, including high-profile figures like Beyoncé, sports teams, influencers, and small businesses. The platform was developed in just six hours by brothers Alex and Anthony Zaccaria and Nick Humphreys.

A team in Brisbane created a simple video editor that is pre installed on millions of Microsoft PCs.

Sold to Microsoft in 2021, the original team continues to operate from Brisbane, focusing on enhancing the platform. Co-founder Alex Dreiling says continuing operations in Brissy is crucial to Clipchamp’s success.

đŸ“ș Filming - Blackmagic & Atomos

These two Aussie legends make high-end video cameras and recorders used in Netflix productions and major films.

Blackmagic Design, founded in Melbourne, has become a major force in professional video production. Their cameras and switchers are used in everything from live broadcasts to Netflix originals. Even more impressive? They developed DaVinci Resolve, one of the world’s most powerful colour grading and editing platforms—and yep, it’s free.

Atomos, based in Melbourne too, makes portable monitor-recorders that filmmakers and content creators swear by. Their gear is trusted on high-end film sets and in mobile production kits around the world.

Both companies represent a proud Australian contribution to the global film and TV industry—proving that you don’t have to be based in LA to lead the way in video innovation.

đŸ€– Marketing - Dataro

Dataro is a Melbourne-based tech company doing something pretty special.

They support over 300 nonprofits across more than 20 countries, helping them improve fundraising and marketing outcomes with AI.

The platform analyses donor data to make better decisions, communicate more meaningfully, and run campaigns that truly connect.

It’s clever tech, created for good.

So, what’s the wrap-up?

Australia isn’t just surfing waves and cracking jokes—we’re quietly helping the world create, design, edit and sound better.

Tools made right here at home are powering everything from Hollywood blockbusters to TikTok tutorials.

And as AI becomes more embedded in our everyday tools, it’s exciting to know that Australian innovation is helping lead the charge.

Am I a proud Australian content creator? Bloody oath!
